Topics and speakers:
Grooming: Dr. Jasmine Khan
Grooming is the psychological, emotional, and physical preparation of a victim that allows the offender to victimize them. Dr. Khan's presentation will identify the patterns of grooming behaviors that, when successful, reduce the likelyhood of an outcry. The pattern of grooming will also be examined in context of the family and society which helps understanding as to why a victim may not be believed when they do report abuse.

Social Media/Digital Evidence: Sgt. Jason Lundquist
In any criminal investigation, digital forensic information can prove invaluable. Everyone has a smartphone or at least one social media account today but these resources are often overlooked. Sgt. Lundquist will explain why collecting a phone or portable electronic device through consent, exigency, or probable cause is essential, best practices for doing so, and what information can be obtained. He will discuss social media platforms, the types of information which can be obtained under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and the types of legal process necessary for each.

Investigative tips for first responders in a potential human trafficking case: Det. Charles Youngblood
Det. Youngblood will focus on different branches of law enforcement working together and using unique tactics to investigate and handle human trafficking cases. This includes a case study on an extreme local human trafficking case.
